A Summer Java Jive

Salt Air, Seagulls, and Stress-Free Days: A Perfect Beach Escape

There’s nothing quite like a beach trip to reset the soul. Now typically I would choose the mountains, somewhere chillier, or even the lake but the moment we arrived we were greeted by the unmistakable call of a seagull—louder and sharper than the caw of the crows we’re used to back home. It was the first sign that we were in a different world for a few days, one ruled by waves, sunshine, and the slow rhythm of the tide.

My husband’s family took a trip to Mustang Island, a location I had not travelled to because our go-tos were always Galveston or Crystal Beach, but this experience was not one forgotten.

A Beach Experience to Remember

This trip felt magical. The water was clearer than it’s ever been, glowing in that perfect blue-green shade that makes you want to dive in immediately. And everywhere we looked, there were sea turtles—gliding beside us in the waves, popping their heads up near the shallows, drifting like little guardians of the shoreline. It felt like sharing the beach with quiet, graceful neighbors.

Sea turtles that came right up to my husband and followed my bobber as we got to fish in a canal. Fishing in clear water and seeing fish we are not used to compared to lake freshwater fishing. Going to a local bait shop and buying what was recommended like shrimp.

Family Time Done Right

What made the trip truly special was experiencing it all with family. No expectations, no packed schedules, just rest, relaxation, and the rare chance to all slow down at the same time. We enjoyed each other’s company in the simplest, most genuine ways: beachside sitting, laughing, exploring, and collecting moments that felt like fresh breaths of air.

Celebrating my mother-in-law’s birthday and although it took so long to get our food when we went out to eat it was quite a scene when they put her on the spot singing her Happy Birthday. Not only that but sitting seaside near all the docked boats in front of a beautiful sunset just sets the scene so well. As well as always trying new eating places and coffee items!

Hard to Leave Paradise

Of course, it wouldn’t be a beach trip without someone getting sunburnt, and yes—ouch—we checked that box. But even that couldn’t dim the mood. The vibes were all chill, all sunshine, all peace.

When it was time to pack up, none of us wanted to return. How do you go back to the everyday grind after days with no stress, soft sand between your toes, and the soundtrack of waves replacing every worry?

This beach trip wasn’t just a getaway, it was a reminder of how good it feels to pause, recharge, and be fully present with the people we love. A little sun, a few turtles, and the call of a seagull were all it took to bring us back to ourselves.
