Let's go for a Swim

Summer time has almost come to an end meaning cool fall winds are about to blow in, winter freezes will creep up on us in no time, and that bright hot sunshine will feel to distant to stay warm.

One way me and my husband enjoy the summer is through swimming.

Now although we did not make it to the lake very much this summer in the past we would go quite frequently. Whether it was to tube down the currents of the Dam spill way or to lay out along the shoreline of the lake, it is something we would try to do often on a weekend just the two of us or with family and friends.

Now I am not a strong swimmer, not to say I cannot swim because I can if I need to, but just slow in motion and have a poor swimmers technique. I remember when I was in the fourth or fifth grade and I went on a swim day trip to a community pool with our church's kid group. To be able to swim in the deep end and jump off the diving board you had to pass a swimming test in the deep end and be approved by the life guards on duty. After several friends even my sister passed the test it was my turn and I struggled making it from one side to the other. Struggled enough that the life guard told me I would have to stay in the shallow due to unsure I would be able to last long in the deep without being able to touch the bottom. Of course I was embarrassed. I slowly wadded back into the shallow end with several small kids and parents. As I sat upset in the water near the steps I watched as a few more from the group started the test and then suddenly another girl did not pass. As sad as it was I was happy because it did not just happen to me. Then another girl joined our small unpassable group, because she could not swim and did not even want to attempt the test. After that we enjoyed our time in shallow and had fun anyways.

Now as I am older I prefer to lay out and relax feeling the suns warmth while the water keeps me cooled down. There have been times me and my husband swim with family playing diving board games and swim races, but nothing beats just chilling out for an hour or two when the weather is nice and hot.

What is a perfect summer day to you?

Would swimming be a part of it?
