Starting Off Right

With a cup of coffee.

I like to start each day with hot cup of coffee. Of course with a pinch of creamer and a helpful heaping spoonful of sugar. Do not get me wrong strong straight black coffee works just as much, but that sweet taste goes well with a new beginning morning.

In my younger days I would go hunting with my father in the early mornings before the sun would even hit the horizon. We would be sitting in the coolness of our stand staring out into the darkened forest listening to the awakening birds and critters that would start to scatter amongst the trees and fallen leaves landing on the ground below. Slowly becoming tired with each passing second due to the peacefulness that surrounded us.

I would slightly nudge my father who would start to snore to awaken him and keep him from running off any approaching animals. He would then grab his tall silver thermos full of hot coffee and pour himself a lid full then pour me some. At first it was disgusting, but then as our trips continued over the years I grew accustomed to the taste.

To this day I am not a huge fan of the straight black coffee, but I will never forget those days spent with my dad sharing cups of coffee in the outdoors and knowing I found this delicious drink because of him.
