Chilling Charms & Darkened Décor

Updated: 4 days ago

A few things I absolutely love when it comes to my home is rearranging furniture, deep-cleaning the house, and decorating for every holiday and season I can. This year, I took it a step further and added new decorations to our Spooky Halloween theme at home.

Last year for fall, we hung falling leaves from the ceiling, and the year before that, we created a Harry Potter-inspired Christmas with floating, lit-up candles. This year, we added flying bats for Halloween! I’ve also seen a growing trend of using a Christmas tree for other holidays — and honestly, why not? Instead of only using it once a year, we can get more use out of it and make it work for other celebrated holidays too.

This year, we put ours up early and transformed it for Halloween with ripped black sheet streamers, a witch hat and broom, a cauldron, Halloween lights, and themed ornaments. All the decorations we’ve collected over the years get repurposed in new ways each time. I used to think everything had to go in the same spot every year — nope! First off, I rarely remember where it went anyway, and second, it’s so much more fun discovering new ways to use each piece. Like this creepy hotel backdrop or the witch hat with roses — even our own little zombie crawling out from under the tree!

To top it all off, my husband got creative and came up with a way to make our own brewing and boiling “potions.” All we needed was water, a bit of rubbing alcohol, and some leftover edible drink glitter we used years ago with our nieces. Stir it all together, and voilà — swirling, sparkly potions that change color depending on which pouch we used! Even after they settle, just shake them up like a mad scientist and the magic comes right back.

Yes, it has been very exciting to try new things for Halloween this year and I cannot way to continue to be creative with other upcoming seasons and holidays as well as what is to come next year!

What is something you try to do to bring in a spooky but simple type of Halloween creativity to your home?
